Our Story

"We wanted to build a place where the music was close enough to feel, where the acoustics were designed for listening, and where every drink was as considered as every note on stage."

— Thierry Lang & Elena Rossi, Founders

The Beginning

JazzHaus was born in 2014 when Swiss jazz pianist Thierry Lang and hospitality veteran Elena Rossi discovered a neglected wine cellar on Gotthardstrasse. Where others saw decay, they saw potential — barrel-vaulted ceilings that would create natural reverb, stone walls that would absorb and warm sound, and an intimacy that larger venues could never offer.

They spent 18 months transforming the space. The 120-seat venue was designed from the stage outward — every seat positioned for optimal acoustics, every light tuned to complement the mood of live performance.

The Philosophy

We believe jazz is best experienced up close. Our stage sits at the same level as the audience — no elevated platform, no barrier between musician and listener. When Marcus Miller plays a bass solo, you feel it in your chest. When a vocalist whispers the last note of a ballad, the room holds its breath together.

The bar follows the same philosophy. Every cocktail is built to complement the evening, not compete with it. Our wine list features Swiss producers alongside international classics, and our kitchen serves brasserie cuisine designed for sharing.
